Frequently Asked Questions

What should I bring with me to Casa de Oro?

While we provide linens and kitchen basics, you’ll want to make sure to bring any personal care/clothing items that will make your stay more comfortable. This includes:

  • Sunscreen
  • Insect repellent
  • Prescription Medications
  • Hair care products & any other beauty care items you might want (just remember that it is hot and humid here during the day so a hair straightener or heavy makeup might just spend the entire vacation in your luggage!)
  • Shampoo & conditioner, body wash, toothpaste & toothbrush and any other personal hygiene products (these are all also available for purchase at the grocery store in Zihuatanejo as well as basics being available at the local bodegas in Troncones)
  • CDs (our stereo system has a CD player)
  • iPod (connects to stereo)
  • Flashlights if you plan to go into town at night
  • Sun hats
  • Sunglasses
  • Sandals
  • Light clothing, several bathing suits, as well as one wrap/sweater/jacket as it can get chilly at night
  • Computer / tablet *if* you want to stay connected during your stay (we do have wifi internet throughout the Villa)

What is there to do at Casa de Oro?

There’s plenty to do! Casa de Oro is surrounded by natural wonders to be explored and appreciated by all who visit. There are opportunities for surfing, caving, horseback riding, fishing, snorkeling, hiking, bicycling, and beach combing. Some activities, like horseback riding, manicures and massages, will even come right to the villa!

The area is renowned for its deep-sea fishing and annual competition that attracts serious sport fishers from around the world who compete for grand prizes. Chartered sport fishing trips are available through Vargas Sportfishing.

Nearby Ixtapa has two excellent golf courses: the Campo de Golf Ixtapa (formerly Palma Real Golf and Tennis Club), and the new Marina Ixtapa Golf Course.

A beachfront massage is also available – a perfect way to enhance your tropical vacation experience.

There are two yoga retreats nearby,  including Present Moment Retreat, which offers yoga classes and dance lessons as well as having an amazing gourmet restaurant.

For a unique adventure, we highly recommend Zoe Kayak Tours. Brian is the perfect educational guide for local wildlife and is excellent at spotting and identifying the rare and common birds in the area, as well as the beautiful local flora.

There are also many choices for very interesting day trips to other charming towns full of cultural and historical interests. Spend a day with world-class surfers riding the waves at their favorite surfing destination Saladita.
